Genre-bending artist, musician and creative director of DIY arts and music collective NiNE8, Ava Laurel, AKA Lava La Rue, released a follow-up to their 2024 full-length studio debut Starface earlier this year in the form of a fresh EP: Do You Know Everything?, marking a shift in their sound with a full-band setup. Originating as a jam session amongst friends, the new set of tracks blends punk catharsis with indie-rock influences and was produced with the help of Grammy-winning producer Fraser T. Smith. That’s not all Lava had in store for this season though. The artist’s brand new single comes out today: Prince of Bologna – a song produced and released by Dan Carey’s (Fontaines D.C, Kneecap) indie label Speedy Wunderground. (Get listening: here)
To mark the release we caught up with the London-based musician about what’s feeding into their current creative inspirations behind the scenes. A perfect weekend with Lava looked a bit like this: family-run restaurant eats, left-field horror movies, hardcore punk festivals, a healthy dose of Greek mythology… oh and a BBQ on the beach!
