NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas and CBS Evening News with Tony Dokoupil will be happy with their individual performances as they finished the week of April 27 with gains in total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo.
Nightly News, in particular, will be encouraged by its showing in the prized A25-54 demo, as it narrowed the gap with ABC World News Tonight with David Muir, with the two broadcasts separated by just 76,000 viewers.
Note: The weekly average of Nightly News and CBS Evening News is based on four days (Monday-Thursday). Friday’s (05/01/2025) NBC News broadcast was retitled NBC Nitely Nws, and CBS News’ broadcast was retitled CBS Evening Nws. These broadcasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages.
According to national live+same-day big data plus program ratings from Nielsen, ABC World News Tonight averaged 8.3 million total viewers and 1.004 million Adults 25-54 demo viewers for the week of April 27. The evening newscast was down by -3% among total viewers and -5% among A25-54 viewers compared to the previous week. Looking at its performance during the same week in 2025* (the week beginning April 28), WNT was up +18% in total viewers and +3% in the demo.
NBC Nightly News finished second in total viewers and the demo, averaging 6.231 million and 928,000 viewers, respectively. Compared to the previous week, Nightly News grew by +1% in total viewers and +12% in the demo. When comparing its performance to the same week a year ago, Nightly News was up by +6% in total viewers and +7% in the demo.
CBS Evening News finished the week of April 27 with 3.862 million and 541,000 viewers, respectively. CBS News’ newscast was up +2% in total viewers and +16% in the demo compared to the previous week. Its year-ago week numbers showed the newscast having gains of +6% among total viewers and +12% in the demo.
