ABC World News Tonight and CBS Evening News grew in both total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo for the week of November 24. WNT was the undisputed leader in both measured categories, extending its lead over its closest competitor by more than 2 million total viewers—its largest viewership in nine months.
Meanwhile, the week leading up to the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend saw NBC Nightly News as the only newscast to decline in total viewers. On the plus side, NBC News’ evening broadcast is marking its closest demo gap vs. WNT in six years.
Note: The weekly averages of ABC News, NBC News, and CBS News are based on different periods: ABC News’ and NBC News’ averages are based on two days (Monday – Tuesday), while CBS News’ averages are based on three days (Monday – Wednesday). Wednesday’s and Friday’s (011/26/25 and 11/28/25) World News Tonight and Nightly News broadcasts were retitled WNT-ABC and Nitely News, respectively. Friday’s CBS Evening News was retitled to CBS Evening Nws. All three broadcasts were coded as specials due to Thanksgiving on Thursday (11/27/2025). These broadcasts were excluded from the weekly and season averages.
According to national live+same-day big data plus program ratings from Nielsen, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir averaged 8.273 million total viewers and 1.03 million Adults 25-54 demo viewers for the week of November 24. The evening newscast grew by +4% in total viewers and the A25-54 demo compared to the previous week. Looking at its performance for the same week in 2024 (the week beginning November 25), WNT was up by +8% in total viewers and +2% in the demo.
NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas was in second place in total viewers and the demo, averaging 6.24 million and 918,000 viewers, respectively. The broadcast was down -3% in total viewers but up by +6% in the A25-54 demo. When comparing its performance to the same week a year ago, Nightly News was flat in total viewers but dropped by -2% in the demo.
CBS Evening News had 4.256 million total viewers and 547,000 viewers in the demo for the week of November 24. The broadcast was up +3% in total viewers and in the demo compared to the previous week. Its year-ago week numbers showed the newscast declining by -3% in total viewers and -2% in the demo.
