We caught up with artist and designer Yinka Ilori MBE as his colourful new solo show Joy Through Resistance opens at Cristea Roberts Gallery in his home city, London. A display of the artist’s most personal work to date, the show features over 20 new and recent pieces across painting, print, sculpture, and sound, and is certainly worth getting down to Piccadilly Circus to see. The exhibition is only the start of what the artist has on the cards for 2026 though, as later this year Yinka is releasing a new book titled Chairman in collaboration with Oro Editions, focused entirely on his early practice in chair design – so keep your eyes peeled for that!
Despite being so busy, Yinka did have some time to offer some of his killer recommendations for the perfect weekend – giving us a peek into a few of the things he’s been getting up to in his time off, such as: finding the best steak spot in the city, rerunning Spike Lee films from the 80s and listening to Asake’s new album on repeat.
