Netflix-Acquired Blindspot Tops the Chart

Blindspot, the former NBC drama, has found a new lease of life on Netflix, propelling to the No. 1 spot in Nielsen’s Top 10 Overall Streaming chart for the week of June 16.

This is Blindspot’s second week in the chart, having made its debut during the week of June 9, and finishing only behind Netflix’s original series, Ginny & Georgia.

According to Nielsen Streaming Content Ratings, the Netflix-acquired crime mystery drama series, starring Jaimie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton, finished the week with 1.795 billion viewing minutes.

Older audiences are the primary draw for Blindspot, which ran for five years on NBC, from 2015 through 2020. The adults 50+ demographic binge-watched the series, accounting for 59% of total minutes watched. It resonated especially well with Hispanic and Black audiences, as they made up 24% and 18% of the show’s streaming audience, respectively.

The week of June 16 had five titles with more than 1 billion viewing minutes, with four of them belonging to Netflix. The streamer had a total of six titles in the chart, with two having shared distribution rights.

Ginny & Georgia saw its two-week domination come to a close, slipping to second place with 1.674 billion minutes viewed. In its three weeks on the chart, the mother-daughter Netflix dramedy series has accumulated 7.4 billion viewing minutes. It’s also a draw among teen audiences, who make up 10% of its viewing audience—an impressive feat, considering that teens comprise only 8% of the overall TV viewing audience.

Love Island USA is proving to be a popular TV destination, as more and more people are flocking to the reality dating series. The Peacock show finished in the No. 3 spot with 1.466 billion viewing minutes. It’s pulling in a much younger audience, as 57% of its viewers are comprised of the adults 18-through-34 demographic.

In fourth place, down from third, was another Netflix-acquired title, Animal Kingdom, which drew 1.43 billion minutes viewed in its second week. Rounding out the top five is a new entry to the chart, Netflix’s The Waterfront, with the crime drama pulling 1.108 billion viewing minutes.

The bottom half of the chart featured Grey’s Anatomy with 982 million viewed minutes across Hulu and Netflix. It was followed by Disney+’s Bluey, which had 819 million viewing minutes. At No. 8 was crime drama NCIS with 817 million minutes viewed across Hulu, Netflix, and Paramount+.

The final two spots in the chart belonged to animated titles, with Paramount+’s SpongeBob SquarePants and Hulu’s Family Guy tallying 699 million and 685 million viewing minutes, respectively.
